Mike Savin
Mike Savin owns and operates a portfolio of apartments located mostly on the NW Side of Chicago. He has over 20 years of experience in property management and as a real estate broker. He started his career with a New York based firm and managed a portfolio of over 500 units in NYC and the surrounding boroughs, which included low income and rent controlled units. He also has experience working on both redevelopment and ground up development of apartment and condo buildings. He has acquired over 100 apartments and single family homes in both Cook and Lake County. He has managed property in Chicago since 2013. Mike Savin is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Kevin Itima began his real estate career in 2012 and joined the Root team in 2018. Before relocating to Chicago, he managed a real estate investment firm in Houston and Atlanta, cutting his teeth on new construction and value-added multifamily acquisitions. As the Director of Sales and Business Development at Root, he has had the opportunity to interact with almost all aspects of the real estate process, including leasing. Kevin has leased over 160 units and completed over 400 tours with properties all over Chicago, from vintage units to luxury new construction and commercial space. His leasing experience has brought him into contact with various innovative tools and procedures that have helped him stay efficient and meet the needs of Root's clients.

Tom Raleigh started his law firm, Halsted Law Group, in March of 2014. Halsted represents several landlords across the Chicago land area. His growing practice focuses on evictions, building violations as well as landlord compliance & consultation.
Before starting his law practice, Tom gained his experience while working for a large multi-family operator, Pangea Real Estate, as its general counsel. While their portfolio grew to over 10,000 multi-family units across Chicago and other cities, Tom was involved in several facets of its business which included development of property management policies & procedures, improving its collections/evictions process, as well as management of the day to day legal affairs. Tom is also a member of Chicagoland Apartment Association’s legislative committee.
Before moving to Chicago, Tom graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2003, and earned his juris doctor at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago in 2006.
Dan Sider is the Director of Property Management at Root Realty, Inc.

With the Illinois General Assembly considering legislation that could potentially result in rent control, we will explore what experiences other jurisdictions throughout the country have had with this form of regulation. Learn about its likely economic consequences and impact on local affordable housing and on local tax base.
As COVID-19 continues to cause major disruptions to the multifamily industry for over a year now, housing providers have been forced to adapt in many different ways. How have your tenant screening practices changed?
Analyzing a prospective tenant’s application can be complicated enough during normal times, and even more so now with an ongoing eviction moratorium that leaves no room for error in your screening process.
We invite you to this “members-only” event where our conversation will focus on new screening policies, interpreting credit scores, analyzing income, reviewing applicants with a Section 8 voucher, reviewing applicants with no credit history, and synthesizing all of this to make good screening decisions.

Please join the Northwest Side Building Coalition and the Neighborhood Building Owners Alliance at a special Lunch & Learn presentation on the Just Housing Ordinance.
Panelists will include Cook County Commissioner Bridget Degnen and industry experts who will educate our members on the important mandated changes to rental applications and tenant screening processes contained in this law.
February’s regular NSBC lunch meeting’s featured topic was 2020 Forecast & Trends for Chicago’s Northwest Side, presented by CoStar’s Brandon Svec, Community Investment Corporation’s Ros Meerdink, and Kass Management’s Andrew Gruesser. Drexel Properties Principal and NSBC Board Member Jeff Weinberg moderated. We also heard from Patti Vasquez, a candidate for State Representative in Illinois’ 19th District.
